I have connected my printer to a new pc with win xp pro.
The printer will print a test page perfectly.
When I try to print anything else, it will only print another test page.
Please can anyone help me?
 
Strange ... should be no problem what so ever as XP has drivers for that HP.

How did you "add" it to the PC ... every thing off, connect cables, turn on printer, turn on PC ... it should then automatically have installed the drivers.

Exactly as you said mucks, it still wont work, other than print a perfect test page. The win drivers are loaded.
 
Hmmm, well I still have several 'printer' cables so I would be swapping that out for another ...

when you say prints a test page, I take it that is from the printer itself and not from XP ... you are using XP?
 
I will try another printer cable just in case, thanks for the sujestion Mucks.
Yes the test page is from the printer.
I am using win xp pro.
 
ah, me brain is starting to work now ... need to go back a number of years.

I want you to check the BIOS and in the 'printer' port mode & set it to ECP ... if you ain't too sure where/what/how, remind me what MB you are using and I'll point you in the right direction.

I have checked and it is set to ECP.

I will retire, and try new printer cable tomorrow, thanks very much for your help Mucks.

OK, I won't be far behind you ... I'll just wait for me pills to kick-in and I'll be off to bed also.

Naw, not too much can go wrong with a good old fashioned Printer ... :thumb:

Glad it was that simple. :D
