I have accidentally deleted the default client policy object from my active
directory (Windows 2000 server)

How do I restore this permanently deleted group policy object?

How exactly did you permanently delete it. Did you delete the actual
directory from sysvol or did you delete the policy from the GPO snapin? If
you deleted it from the GPO you can just go back and re-link the policy to
the container. This article can help you in relinking the policies.

If you deleted the actual directory, Contact MS Support to help you restore
it.

Hi Manolis-

You would need to restore the object by restoring your domain controller's
system state, non-authoritatively.

I deleted permanently from the GPO snapin. Now there is not the default
object into the snapin not either exists the directory in sysvol.
Also I have not a system state backup.
I know there is a tool from Microsoft named "recreatedefaultpol.exe" or
something like that. If that helps how can I find it?
I have an OEM version of W2K server.
GPMC and dcgpofix.exe work only under W2003 server?
Thank you for help!

Contact MS Support and they can assist you with restoring the GPO.

Yes. dcgpofix.exe is a w2003 tool. It will not work under 2000.

I also saw the post about recreatedefaultpol.exe. A google search
turned up ZERO hits after searching. If this is an actual tool, it
does not seem to be easily attainable.

I'm not willing to make a $245 call to MS to find out. :)
