How can I recover rules from backup copy Outlook 2007?

My system crashed but I was able to boot to a temporary desktop and copied
all on my 2 internal drives to my external drive. After reinstalling Vista
Ultimate 32 bit and Office Ultimate 2007 I was able to import the old .pst
which restored all folders and messages but not any of my Rules. I tried
Rules | Options | Import Rules but it was unable to find whatever file it
required.

I found that I had to copy the .pst file onto the internal drive before
Import would work. Is there a Rules file that I should copy from my external
drive?

Also, none of the imported messages retained their Category status. That's
just annoying and is a bug in Outlook.

But I really need to recover those Rules. Will anyone help?

Any useful suggestions would be much apprciated.

Importing, or exporting, loses rules and other settings.
Within OL you should have opened the data file, or in setting OL up pointed
it to the old data file

Rules are kept in the pst-file. They need to be exported on the original
computer first if you want to restore them on a new computer.

Never use the import function if you want to restore a pst-file on another
computer. Use File-> Open-> Outlook Data File... instead.

Thanks.

But what I am doing is all taking place on one and the same computer. Using
the freshly installed copy of Outlook 2007 I ran File | Import | Import from
another program or file | Personal Folder File (.pst) and selected the
Replace option. This imported everything but the rules. I imported from the
copy I made of Outlook before I overwrote the internal drive by reinstalling
Vista, etc.

P.S. The link in the email notification took me to this site but the screen
remained blank even after clicking 'Refresh'. I had to go to the general
Discussion Groups site and search for my posting. Anybody else having this
type of problem?

What is the exact name of that data file. I copied everything to my external
drive so I must have it.

Thanks again,

Do NOT use import when adding data from one instance of Outlook to another.
Just open the PST and, in your case, reuse it as the delivery location PST.
