Outlook Personal File - Contacts & Rules

C

Curtis Stevens

I'm using Outlook 2002 (Office XP) and have read that the address book,
rules, etc. are stored in the .pst file. My computer crashed, but I'm able
to get the .pst file off the hard drive, but when I copy that file & use it,
rules & contacts are not there.

Thanks
Curtis

I think that for Outlook 2002 the rules are kept in the mail profile in the
registry. The contacts are definitely in the PST. Open the PST with
File>Open>Outlook Data File and you should see the Contacts folder the PST
contains.

I opened it, but nothing showed up.

What DO you see?
Where in the registry?

In the mail profile.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messageing
Subsystem\Profiles
I could be wrong about the rules location, though. I never used OL 2002
much. They might be in the PST in a hidden folder.

The rules were there, thought they were the old ones.

However, the contacts never showed up and they are suppose to be in the pst
file as well. Tried the open way you mentioned...

All Outlook data is in the PST. DO you see a COntacts folder at all in the
opened PST? Are you using the Folder List view of the Navigation Pane or
the Mail view. If the latter, it's no wonder you don't see it because
Contacts folders don't contain mail.

I am going to the address book, empty.

And again, do you see a Contacts folder and, if so, what does it contain?
Outlook doesn't have an address book. The "Address Book" is just a view of
those Contacts foldersa you have that have been enabled as address books.
Sounds like you haven't done this. First, though, look in the Contacts
folder. If you see contacts there, right-click the Contacts folder, choose
Properties, select the Outlook Address Book tab, and check the box labeled
"Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".
