Hello,

I want to keep my .pst file on a portable hard drive. I will use this drive
when I am at the office with my laptop. I will use it at my home with my
desktop. Outlook works fine this way with the following challenges
Rules no longer work as they are for another machine. I need my rules to
work no matter what machine my .pst file is connected to
My folders are not synced up. I think I need to move another file to my
remote drive so that my Outlook looks and acts the same between machines.

I get a lot of email and I have to keep the messages for my clients. I need
the rules to work so that my mail can be delivered into the correct folders.
It appears that the rules are now part of the .pst file.

What can I do to to use my rules on both machines?

Thanks in advance.

Look at each rule and untick "only on this machine" or something similar.

Is the drive # identical on both machines? What about the windows user name
and outlook profile name? These can all effect the rules.

FWIW, you're asking for trouble doing this - unless you have good backups,
you could lose all of the data if you aren't careful. It would be better to
invest in a hosted exchange account so the mailboxes are identical on both
ends - no more moving the portable drive or messing with rules.

Another option would be to keep the pst on the portable drive but set each
outlook to use a local pst with rules to move mail to the portable pst. This
way the rules aren't affected by moving the pst.
