Help to fix error message accessing Help Center

M

Michael Mauzey

When I try to access the Help and Support Center,
an error message immediately comes up stating:

" An ActiveX control on this page is not safe. Your current security
settings prohibit running unsafe controls on this page. As a result, this
page may not display as intended".

And I can't go any further into troubleshooting ... this error message
always comes up. How do I fix?
Thanks!

I gave you this link in two other posts, please reply if this solution does
not work for you. This will be my last reply for your problem unless you

I'm sorry ... I didn't see the other two posts. I appreciate your help. I
went to Current User and there was no "1200" under Zone 0, so I created one
.... however, I also have Zones 1, 2, 3 and 4 ...the 1200
in Zones 1, 2 and 3 were all set to 0, but the 1200 in Zone 4 was set to 3,
so I changed it to 0.

The same was true for Machine except there was a 1200 = 0 in Zone 0, but the
1200 in Zone 4 was 3, so I changed it to 0.

But none of that helped ... When I go to "Troubleshoot" anything, I still
get the Active X error message. Any
other suggestions? Again, thanks for your help ... Michael

Did you reboot the computer after you made the registry edits. From the web
page that I suggested, was the error message exactly the same as you see in
the picture?

Did you try disabling your anti-virus software to see if you can access Help
and Support.

In my Zone 4, 1200 is listed as a 3

Yes, I rebooted my computer and I disabled my anti-virus program; but when i
tried to troubleshoot something, it took me to the Help Center and the same
exact error message came up. This is very frustrating! But I very much
appreciate your efforts. Also, the posts in this newsgroup disappear so
quickly ... and my post and your replies are at the top of the list now, so
I'm afraid that if i check it again tomorrow, it will be gone. If that
happens, I'll repost this whole dialogue again so that it will re-start at
the bottom of the page, OK? Thanks for trying to fix it for me ... Michael
And, yes, the error message was EXACTLY as shown on your web page.

Hi Micheal,

What happens if you reset the Internet Options Security settings back to
default?

Open the Internet Options in the Control Panel, click on the Security Tab.
Select "Internet" then click "Default Level". Select "Local Internet" then
click "Default Level". Select "Trusted Sites" then click "Default Level".
Select "Restricted Sites" and click "Default Level". Click the Apply button.
Now try Help and Support.

Hi William,
I tried resetting everything back to "default" and
I still get that same error message. I appreciate it, but
I almost never go to the Help Center anyway, so it's no big loss ... My
CD/RW isn't being recognized anymore and I wanted to go to the Help Center
to try to trouble shoot that ... but think I'll just buy an external DVD
burner to replace my internal CD/RW non-functional drive. Thanks again !

What does Device Manger report for your CD Drive. It may be an Upper/Lower
filter problem.

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314060

This fix still applies if you do not have Easy CD Creator.

The Device Manager doesn't even acknowlege that the CD/RW drive exists ...
it only lists one drive ... my DVD-ROM drive. I have both a DVD and a CD
drive ... but Device Manager doesn't list the CD Drive.
I've tried scanning for hardware changes .. everything else that I can think
of ... I hate Dell !!!

Thanks again ... Michael

Does the BIOS recognize the CD drive?

You are probably right, that the drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

thanks .... but it still doesn't explain why the help center doesn'r work.

Hi Micheal,

Can you check these two registry locations for the ActiveX problem.

[HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
and
[HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

If there is a Zone key then delete the Zone key and reboot your machine.

Note: The [Internet Settings] key may not be present.

I don't have either of those registry locations in my registry:
1. Under: [HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows ... all I have after
that are Microsoft\Messenger\Client OR
SystemCertificates\ followed by ... ca or Disallowed or trust or Trusted
Publisher.

OR Under:
2. [HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ ... all I have after that
are Driver Searching OR Installer
OR IPSec OR Psched OR Safer

No where do I have a reference to anything you mention after "Policies" in
registry string that you gave me.

If you want to e-mail me directly ([email protected]) I can send you print
screens of that section of my Registry if that would help.
You have gone way beyond trying to help me and
I sincerely appreciate it ... but I feel guilty about wasting anymore of
your time. Thanks again ... Michael
