What kind of warning do you get when one appears?

In general, random shutdowns can be due to flakey ram. Have you tested
yours? Windows Memory Tool: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Might check for dust bunnies and clean them up too.

Since there are a million and one things that can go wrong the specific
error message would help

I would save everything to a disk. after that wipe your hard drive. reinstall
everything.

ok... originally wen i 1st had the pc shuttin down on me, it was due 2 a browser hijack. i cudnt get rid of it all so thats y i did a complete reinstall. then.... i kept gettin error messages "win32k.sys"an "windows NT5.1BUILD:2600 " amongst othas wen i had dun the reinstall. i did look these up an as far as i cud make out, it was either drivers or my ram. like i said...i tested the drivers with snapsys an all was ok. an i took the ram out 2. now wen my pc shuts down...theres no error warnins at all. its also slowed down so much that its almost goin bakwards. v v v confused here. kala

When you did that "reinstall" of XP did you format during that
did you also reinstall all of the motherboard drivers??
When you look under Device Manager is everything OK??
Have you done a complete virus scan??
What are your system specs?? other than PackardBell

Ram Taken out completely...........or just replaced with different Ram.
Have you looked in the BIOS to see if all of the Ram is recognized??
asuming you replaced it
Maybe the Ram is not seated properly
If you have no Ram I am surprised the system even starts!!
