Well, about 3 days ago my PC began to freeze up while I shut it down. My os
is xp and when it goes to that blue screen that says "Windows is shutting
down" it freezes. Im thinking it may be an HDD problem but im not entirely
sure. If its any help, I donwloaded a windows update before I shut it off.
Ialso defraged the HDD and ran a virus check. Thanks, and any help will be
appreciated.

Thanks all for yuor help. I uninstalled that update and I installed that app
you suggestied. Too bad it still freezes. :( I was paying close attenchion
though: After the amount of time the PC would normally shutdown, the hard
drive stopes spinning andit freezes there. Dont know if that will help you
all in helping me with my error (that sounds confusing). But thank you.

The Article in the link which follows may help:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

Examining hardware and it's drivers to get replacement drivers may
provide the solution. To do this you need information about your
computer,
The details regarding the make and model of your motherboard would be
a good place to start.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information
about your computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this
is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup
messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup
subscribers.

Please post a copies of any Error / Warning Report as they appears
in the System / Application logs in Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error
Report. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Also please see troubleshooting advice in this link
