computer won't shut down automatically

my computer is being extremely slow shutting itself down. Sometimes it
doesn't freeze, just takes hours shutting down Windows. I have shut it down
manually twice but, usually i just let it run out of battery and turn off. I
just defragmented the comp. for the first time and that didn't help. It's
an acer and i know their crap so maybe that's the problem... please help me
out.

Thanks!

Does your machine refuse to shutoff at shutdown?

This may or may not work depending on whether or not your system
supports APMS. Start regedit, and make your way to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] and in the right pane look
for the key PowerOffActive. Change the value to 1.
