Windows XP Shuts Down

Hope that there is someone out there that can help!!

My problem is that my computer system shuts down automatically - without any
error messages at all. Sometimes I cannot get in at all, while going through
the start up process it suddenly comes up with "Windows is Shutting Down"!!
Or if I actually do get in - my time on the computer can vary from 2 minutes
to 3 hours before "Windows is Shutting Down" appears and then it is all over
red rover. To be able to use the computer I have to log in as another user
and then switch users and there is always a windows message that says "Other
people are logged on to this computer. Shutting down Windows might cause them
to lose data. Do you want to continue shutting down? You then click no and
nothing happens - message screen still appears.

I have done all of the obvious things, complete computer scan, defrag,
Adaware scan, Spybot scan, Norton Scan, checked power cords, checked
everything plugged in ok, checked power point, scanned with Windows Advanced
Care, done a system restore, taken the machine back to where I bought it,
they rekon there is nothing wrong with it - I brought it home plugged it in
and it shut down.

Help I really need to be able to fix this problem. Any suggestion or
comments would be appreciated.

Hi,

My guess would be to look in the BIOS for any kind of power saving settings
or anything that you can see that might be causing an issue.. Also, you
might try right clicking the desktop, properties, screen saver tab, power
button, Hibernate tab, uncheck the box "enable hibernation" also look at the
Power Schemes tab and select Always On, After 3 hours, Never, Never, apply
changes, if needed.. That's how my power options are set anyway..
Hope it can help or at least rule it out so someone else can take a crack at
possible solution your problem..

The above link may be helpful.. See step 7-8 for testing the RAM and
hardware, etc..
Good luck..
