Help - keep seeing blue screen with problems listed

Yesterday the computer was stuck at the blue & white screen with v3.06 in the
left corner now it will work thru Windows but if not used for a while a blue
screen with white writing appears saying a problem has been detected &
Windows has been shut down. It showed the words 'Kernal_Data_Inpage_error' -
what does this mean? It then asks me to check if the hardware/software is
properly installed. It says if problems continue to disable or remove any
installed hardware/software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or
shadowing. If I need to use safe mode to remove or disable components restart
the computer. Press F8 to select advanced start up options & then select safe
mode. It shows the following Tech info

*** STOP: 0x0000007A (0xC03E5E38, 0xC000000E, 0xF978E130, 0x0FED5860)
*** atapi.sys - Address F978E130 base at F977D000, Datestamp 41107b4d
Beginning dump of physical memory

What does all this mean??
