Notebook blue screen

My wife has notebook with WinXPsp2 and has received several blue screens for
past week or so. She posted question but did not know any other details. I
have copied the details from the blue screen and wonder if anyone can
interpret the following and tell us if her notebook is ruined. We are senior
citizens and she has really become attached to the notebook, her emails to
friends, etc. (She is away at the moment; so I thought I would post this
message for help). If I can answer any further questions (to possibly solve
this problem) please let me know. Thank you.
Here is the message from the blue screen:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for
any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,
press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

AGRSM.sys refers to a Lucent software modem driver. Have any changes been
made lately to the drivers for the modem?
