cannot boot - get blue screen

Can anyone help me bypass the blue screen to get to the dos command prompt?
I am using Windows XP Home Edition 2003, and got a bad computer virus. When
I start the computer, push F8, and select "safe mode with command prompt" I
get this message:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a drive is identified in
the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for
driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove
or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced
Startup Options, and then select safe mode.

0xF8C6E548, 0xF8C6E244)

Any ideas? I can't get past this screen!!
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer,
press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

XP has no DOS but you can use your XP cd to boot to the recovery console

i had this same problem last week. unfortunately when i took it to the
computer shop i was told that the platform had been destroyed. how i do not
know. they were able to recover some info from my hard disk, but the rest was
gone. i have purchased a new laptop. i was afraid to just replace the hard
drive as no one has any idea what caused the problem in the first place. good
luck.
