earlier this summer a Dell computer was donated to my daughter. It
has been working fine up until recently. Now when we turn on the
computer, we get a black screen that asks if you want to start in safe
mode. Then it geos to the windows xp startup screen. Then it goes to
a blue screen. Here is what it says on the screen:

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

REGISTRY _ERROR

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart
your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly
installed. If this is a new installation, ask you hardware or
software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable memory BIOS memory options such as caching or
shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable
components, restart your computer, press f8 to select Advanced startup
options, and then select safe mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x000051 (0x00000003, 0x00000000, 0xE1515000)

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for
further assistance.

Can someone please help us! What do I have to do to fix this
problem. Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

It looks like a corrupted registry.
If you can boot into Safe Mode, then you might try to do a System
Restore.
Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore

If you can't boot into Safe Mode, then you should try to boot from a
Live Linux CD (such as Knoppix) in order to back up as much of your
data as you can via USB or network and then re-install Windows.

Good Luck,
