i run windows xp home edition and regularly get a blue screen appear which
says:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
STOP 0x0000007A (0xc07BA5BO, 0xC000000E, 0xF74B6384, 0x149A1860)
atapi.sys Address F74B6384 Base at F74A90000 datestamp 41107B4D

it also says something about checking new hardware or software that i've
installed but there isn't any, about checking BIOS memory options and turning
off shadowing and caching, which i also don't know how to do.

I too was plagued with these Kernel page errors. I spent $40 talking to
Dell, $60 to a computer repair person, and what he found was a faulty
Ethernet cable to my DSL modem. Looking for the system error messages in the
Event Viewer revealed many networking errors. So, my DSL provider sent me a
new modem (since I was due for an upgraded model) and all new cables, and now
I haven't had any blue screen errors whatsoever. Good luck!
