ATAPI.SYS BSOD 0x0000007A & 7E

Guest

I leave my computer on all the time, when I get home from work (so far this
happened twice), I get the following:

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

0x0000007A (0xC05CF790, 0xC000000E, 0xB9EF2384, 0x270E3860)

ATAPI.SYS B9EF234 BASE AT B9EE500 DATESTAMP 41107B4D

---- And after I reboot, it does this perpetually, until I finally clicked
on "Last Known Good Config"

0x0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XB9839184, X0BA506D44, 0XBA506A40)

I already tested the RAM (2 GB DDR2 800, 1x2dimms)
The Hard drive has no physical errors.

I had Daemon Tools installed. I uninstalled it after this happened (Virtual
CD/DVD ROM Drive)

I have a Conroe E6700 2.66 GHz Core 2 DUo
Intel DG965WH motherboard with latest bios version

I also have a Hauppauge TV Tuner, PCIe x16 Graphics Card and Creative Sound
Blaster Audigy 4

Any ideas? What's going on? I just spent $1500 and am CLUELESS! :(

Thank you in advance!

I recently experienced a similar problem. As it turned out,
my video card was not fully seated in the motherboard slot.
I would recommend carefully removing each piece of hardware
from it motherboard slot, then reinstall, making sure it is
fully engaged in its respective motherboard slot. Also, make
sure all electrical connections are secure and no wires are
touching the RAM modules.

I already reinserted the cards. I don't believe there are any wires over the
RAM, but if there was, and I can't move them away why would that cause a
problem? I ran Memtest 86+, for 8 hours, not one error....

Thanks for the quick response, I really appreciate it.

Some types of malware camouflage themselves as atapi.sys, particularly if
they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check
the atapi.sys process on your pc whether it is pest.
Download and run Security Task Manager for verifying your computer's security.

Also, check for unsigned drivers:

I already ran SFC... and checked the date of the file, it's in 2004 it'ws
original, what would explain the other stop error im getting?

I dont have any malware on the PC, it's freshly formatted, and new and I
just built it.

If I have any unsigned drivers and the vendor does not have any signed
drivers, what do i do? And how do I solve the problem??

If possible, I would like *ALL* possibilities for the cause of these stop
errors... I do APPRECIATE everything you have replied with... I want to get
this resolved asap... and want to try everything you tell me.... Instead of
just replying back and forth, I'd just like to know every single possibility
so I can try them all. Thanks!!!

What is the rated wattage of your power supply unit?
Sometimes an over-taxed PCU can cause error messages.

Can you confirm the first parameter is correct as to see 0xC000000E as a
first parameter is normally seen with an STOP: 0x00000077 (0xC000000E,
0xC000000E, 0x00000000, ??????????). You can often see 0x0000007A and
0x00000077 errors on the same computer.

0xC000000E
STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE
A device that does not exist was specified.

0xC000000E, or STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE: the drive went unavailable,
possibly a bad hard drive, disk array, and/or controller card.

Is this an intermittent error or does the computer never boot?

What is the hard drive make and model? Have you tested the hard drive
with the manufacturers test utility?

0x0000007A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
A page of kernel data was not found in the pagefile and could not be
read into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller
drivers, firmware, or hardware.

I suspect this is the type of problem where chkdsk will not help.

You might find a clue in the System log of Event Viewer. However, this
type of error can be before Event Viewer logging starts.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

You could see what HD Tune says.

Try HD Tune only gives information and does not fix any
problems.

Download and run it and see what it turns up. You want HD Tune
(freeware) version 2.55 not HD Tune Pro (not Freeware) version 3.00.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message. The active mode could provide an
answer.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Make sure you do a full
surface scan with HD Tune.
