Assuming that you have your headphones plugged in to the
correct jack on the back of your computer (sometimes the
jacks on the cdrom drive(s) are not connected internally
to the sound card), click on
Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control.
Once in the volume control window, clickon Options then
make sure there's a checkmark in advanced controls. You
then make sure none of the mute buttons are checked, if
they are, uncheck them all and see if that works.

Irene,

Are you ABSOLutely positive that your headphones are
attached to the appropriate output jack on the back of
your computer?? The reason I ask this again, is that I had
my headphones hooked up wrong once, and it gave me fits
before I figured it out. Also, if you haven't already, try
out the headphones on a home stereo system or boombox just
to make sure they haven't "bit the dust" I have XP home
edition, but I wouldn't think that the audio controls
would differ much.
