HE officejet G55

Ok, so I know this is an ancient all-in-one but I want it to work. No
laughing please. I bought this back when my computer (sort-of) ran on
Windows ME and the software that came with it was ME software. When I
upgraded to XP the printer worked to print, but all the scanning
features disappeared. Needing to scan I went to the HP site to
download the drivers for the G55. I did so about 4 times and I can't
really tell you what went wrong, but I still can't scan. The HP site
says the driver storage requirement is 39.51M, but the Add Delete
software list under the Control Panel says the HP Officejet software
takes up 150 MB. Also, I cannot delete from the Add/Delete Control
Panel list. I click on it to delete and there is NOTHING there that
says I can delete this and start over. When I go to the HP driver
site to scan my computer to see if I have the latest software, it
says I do, but on the Program list, there is nothing but a link to
the read-me file and that doesn't work. I'm not all that bright, but
not stupid either and can follow directions. If anyone can tell me
what to do from here I'd be ever so grateful. My guess is that I
need to get rid of what's installed on my system now, but I don't
know how, and I need to reload the drivers, but even when I have, it
hasn't worked, so I'm doing something wrong. Thanks for reading
this.......

Neither the downloaded HP driver for G55 nor the Windows XP built in
driver for G55 work. The driver for G55 I downloaded last year worked
perfectly, this year I purchased a new PC and the latest download is a
pile of S***.

if someone has the original driver, could you please upload it and I
will pay a few bucks with paypal.

Thanks.

did you do an upgrade of XP or did you do a clean install?
if you butchered the install of XP over ME then this could be the problem.
MANY people leave USB and other peripherals plugged in when doing this and
it ends up a mess.
