Installing an HP printer

I have an old HP6110 OfficeJet printer a friend gave me. I downloaded an
install file from the HP site, and used the exe file to start the
install process. When the h/w was detected, a Wizard came up, but it
would not find the driver. What do I need to do?

Did you download the driver from here... clicking on the link that just
says Windows XP?

You are not supposed to plug the printer into the computer (via USB)
until after you have run the installer you download, and the installer
tells you to turn on the printer and plug in the USB cable.... so
nothing should be getting detected prior to that.

Usually if the Windows new hardware wizard comes up at that point, you
should cancel it and let the already running HP installer detect and
install the hardware.
