Group Policy not working

Teresa Whitney

I have a Windows 2000 server and XP clients. I set up a
group policy on the server and it is not working on the
clients. I saw the previous entry for this problem and
set the clients registry with the Enabling DFS and
Enabling File and Print Sharing. It is still not
working. Isn't there is a way to force the clients to us
the group policy? I have one day before school starts to
fix this. Thanks.

Hi Teresa,

If you are applying a policy to an OU, there are two considerations:

1. If you are enabling a user policy (applying to users - User Config Part
of the policy), you need the users to be in that OU
2. If you are enabling a computer policy (applying to computers - Computer
Confg Part of the policy), you need the computers in that OU

If you think all the basics have been verified, you need to enable some
settings, especially for XP clients:

http://kb/article.asp?id=Q305293

- as you see XP clients do have the "logon optmization" enabled by default
- after enabling, "Always wait for the network at computer startup and
logon" on one of the XP clients, if the policies indeed are applied, you may
want to do this on all XP clients
by upgrading the W2k policies:

I did all of the following, except upgrading windows 2000
group policy for windows xp. When I do a browse, it says
it can not find any other computers. Security still isn't
working. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Teresa
