Windows XP Clients not APPLYING GROUP POLICY

Andrew

Hello:

I have a Windows 2000 Server, and I can log in to my Windows 2000 server
with my Windows Xp Clients, and I can see all of network drives and edit
files etc. Everything works fine.

BUT the group poliy is NOT working. The group policy from the Windows
2000 Server is not being applied on the Windows XP Clients. So being a
fairly knowledgable Admin, I checked the Event Log on the Windows Xp
Machines.

I clicked on Application Event Log, and viewed the application log. I
noticed I was getting a Userenv error # 1030, and # 1058.

I searched on the web those events, and found a 'fix', the fix was
enabling DFS by changing a Registry Key. (This is the guide I followed:
http://www.jsiinc.com/subk/tip5100/rh5168.htm)

Enabling DFS DID NOT WORK. Enabling File and Print Sharing while
enabling DFS DID NOT WORK. I have had several ITs over since I tried
that and even they are stumped. This is my last resort.

Can anyone help me :(

Thanks AloT!

Hi Andrew,

Please look at these:
810907 Error Messages When You Open or Copy Network Files on Windows XP SP1
http://kb/article.asp?id=Q810907

- ensure DFS service is "started and automatic" (please reconfirm this)
- check to see if "everyone grp" has FC on root drive
- check to see if "everyone grp" is added to "bypass traverse checking" on
the domain controller policy

How do you make sure that DFS is started automatically, and how do you
start it automatically. I don't see it listed as a 'service'.

Also, the KB article says I have to contact Microsoft if I have this
problem. Is this going to COST ME MONEY? But anyway the files that I
have are different, they are the same version but a made a different
time, does this still apply to me them

Thanks.
