GEMSTAR GUIDE PLUS+

Anybody else having problem getting correct download listing for their
area? I'm receiving the Antenna listing for my area for both antenna
and cable. I need cable. Open case with ATI because GEMSTAR web site
says see you vendor. Received ATI online auto-reply two days ago.
Called ATI today and they did have my case number because of them
changing their support system. Open new case and was told to just wait
and see if GEMSTAR notice their error. I ask how would they if ATI
don't notifies them.

Something may be going on at Gemstar. On Thursday, when I last
updated Guide+, it went back into the original set-up mode requiring
me to select which channel line-up was the right one from my area. It
was if I was setting up Guide+ for the very first time. The problem
is, none of the seven line-ups offered were entirely correct. They
never have been and still omit or misplace several channels on my Time
Warner (Houston, TX) analog line-up. Gemstar (or ATI) doesn't seem to
stay very up-to-date on channel-line-up changes. I know that because I
work for the cable company in this area and know there is only one
Time Warner line-up being used.

Until your post I wasn't even aware Gemstar had an online presence. I
tried to google it several months ago and just couldn't find anything,
but now I can find it easily -- not that it does any good -- as you
already mention, they require ATI be contacted directly.

Well, I guess I'll try to contact ATI. I'm sure they'll stop whatever
they're doing and go and update my Guide+ channel line-up.

I contacted them about missing channels not long ago. I live between the
NYC and Philadelphia areas; my cable company's lineup is mostly NYC with a
few from Philly - none of which appear on GEMSTAR's lists. (A few other
channels are also missing.) The reply I eventually got amounted to "Well,
that content is largely duplicated by other channels on the lineup, so it
isn't a problem."

Can't promise this will work BUT try changing your ZIP code to
something completely diff. (another city); D/L the listings for THAT
code and then change BACK to 'yours' and DL again.

I had some problems similar to this once and this worked for me.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. I tried this several months
ago when I saw the wrong line-up using my own zip code. So I changed
it to configure based on the zip code where the cable company is
located -- but had same results.

Yes, I tried this also the first day and did get a different listing but
it was incorrect for me and that location. Went back and still bad.

I did finally received an email from opening a case via ATI from someone
at TVGuide.com; here is what they said yesterday:

By Pass "Gemstar Guide Plus+" if all you need is a listing.

I use www.zap2it.com because that dreaded guideplus is yet
ahnother useless add on from ati in order to falsely inflate
their video card prices.

I only need the "Gemstar Guide Plus+" for ease of scheduling programs
when using AIW as a PVR. This is what makes it worth the cost because
of no Tivo service fees.

I am having the same problem for the past several days ... missing many
channels and the listings are all wrong.

Yup. Gemstar is defective as far as keeping track of
listings goes. In my area the whole thing is 100 % useless
and I would not even recommend trying to use that critter...

Also very useless in my area because I am connected to a cable
box and all I have is channel 3 and I would have to manuall
grab the remote for that box (not the ati one) and change it
with that.

Have I installed the ATI remote? No because my guess was that
it was useless in my case.

Geneve,

How do you get the TV card to integrate with Zap2it so that you can schedule recordings?
That is the principal reason why people in Canada stick with ATi, there are no useable
alternatives to Guide+'s integration into MMC and its ability to schedule programming for
recording with the TV Wonders.

We'll really be screwed when all is digital and our tuners are useless :-(

Yeah but the software is pretty much useless anyways.

I can hook in to it but then I get oh maybe 40-60 channels at most.

ATI is behind the times.....

Some one there needs to wake up and update even some of the installs.

I now have cable listing for my area. Two long weeks without it being
right.

Thats's good to know. Thanks for taking the time to report back. Based
on your feedback, I think I'll also pursue it, if I can figure out how
to submit a similar request to ATI.
