Frozen Switches in system

Dear Help-Team

In win xp pro sp2 all buttons in Device Manager regarding Update
Driver are dead.
I was trying to update the drivers for usb to change them in adhanced
mode, but the Update switch is doing nothing.
I tried other devices as wel just for test such as Adaptec-SCSI but
all devices in Device Manager are frozen.

(motherboard ASUS P5AD2 Premium P4 3.6 GHz 2G mem)

Sounds like the system thinks you are not an admin. Create a new user admin, or use the default 'administrator' account from safe
mode.

I made a new account with admin. but the same frozen Update Switches
I tried the same in Safe Mode with no result.
Any other suggestion apart from a fresh winxp (that's what my supplier
is telling me)
