found this interesting free verification engine

I am testing the comodo free pro firewall to see how it is for customers of
mine that cannot afford to buy one.
So far I really like it, takes a bit to get used to because it constantly is
learning and popping up to allow or not, I will let you know how it is doing
but I found this free verification engine that works with IE and firefox.

at http://www.vengine.com/

a.. Feel confident that your sensitive information is not being hijacked
by fraudulent sites
b.. Verify the authenticity and identity of websites you are doing
business with
c.. Unique browser independent verification - Supports all major browsers
d.. Powered by Comodo - one of the world's largest Certification
Authorities
e.. World Class free customer support
I am using it (you just need to have acrobat reader 7.0+ or it crashes) and
it is pretty neat. I tested it at banking sites and it comes up with a
green frame around the browser and if you put the cursor on the SSL icon it
will pop up and tell you if it is for real.

try it out and you can read more about it on the site and download a
userguide too

Pardon me Robin.

"d.. Powered by Comodo - one of the world's largest Certification
Authorities."

Would they be certified to be of any assistance to those of us who may be
incontinent on here? Very unfortunate choice of marketing name. Italian by
any chance? ;)

well PC magazine rates their free firewall program very high
and I have been testing their antispam product and it works rather well and
their free verification software- you know with all the anti identity theft
going on online, if this little program helps, I have tested this program
out on numerous sites I know are good and on my test machine I have tested a
few "bad phoney" sites and on the phony site it came up RED instead of green
and told me this was not a verified certified site (which I already knew but
it was a good test to do it at)
so i see no problem but a plus using it. Uses vertually no memory and since
it seems to work it is just another tool ito preventy anti idently theft.
Why don't you just give it a try and see?

Hi Robin;

Thanks for the link... I thought it was a good idea so I'm doing just
that... trying it out. So thanks for the link... but what I'm finding is
that for sites that are normally slow to load or under DOS attacks, like
CastleCops is apparently now, it can get in the way... with no way to shut
it down without uninstalling... Could you take a look at any of the forum
links on CastleCops and see if you have that problem as well, maybe it's
just me or my configuration? Thanks again.

i went to castlecops.com and went on the forums and i found no problems,
pages loaded fine with verification engine- nothing locked up or went slow,
it did put a green frame around the site stating it was good but thats it.
you do know you can configure it to flash the cursor instead of making it
slide across the page.
I did that and it made the program work better.
right click on the icon in the right side of the taskbar and go to
Veaida Cursor Type
Put the check mark on "flashing" instead of Pointer Trails
and the Mode should be Clear if I move the mouse

See if this makes a difference
if not show me a link and i will go there and test it

Dave- it does slow it down to a crawl in IE7 but not in firefox
if you normally only use ie then i guess you cannot use it
but if you use firefox than it works fine

Robinb - I tried it - and it caused me much concern for a while. It was
blocking my flash player on some sites, which I blamed Adobe and IE7 for -
after much uninstalling and reinstalling, visiting several forums, etc., I
finally realized it (VEngine) was not compatible with some sites using Flash
Player. After uninstalling it, all my sites now work properly. I guess it's
just not compatible with all sites and programs, and I was the unlucky one
who had problems.

seems it doesn't like ie7- i also tested on a few more computers on ie7 and
found problems.
It runs fine on firefox, though

Nor IE6, tried to open a ticket with them... that didn't work either.
Tried telephone support, they don't support free products via phone. I'm
not impressed with this support approach and can see I should look
elsewhere for a firewall when I go shopping for one. Too bad, the product
does seem to have a lot of value when it works, as it does on FireFox.
