Footer Placeholders Editable on Individual Slides?

When I use the Insert Tab to switch on Footer Placeholders (Date, Footer and
Slide number), individual, editable placeholders are being placed on each
slide. They are still taking their location and format from the Master, but
can be manipulated on individual slides. Could this possibly be functioning
as designed?

NY Law Firm,
That's the way PPT 2007 works, nothing you can change about that. If you
want you can delete the placeholders in the master, then add your own text
boxes to the master and put the slide number/footer/date in there.

I'm missing where on the Insert tab I'd find the option to insert. You mean
into the textbox I've placed on the master and or layouts, right?
