PPT2007 footers not on all slides

I am using Powerpoint 2007 and have an issue with footers not appearing on
all slides. In Insert - header and footer, selecting the footer and slide
number and clicking apply or apply all has no effect and when I go back into
it, the selections are unchecked.
I have checked the slide master and have numerous slide layouts, all of
which have placeholders for footers showing. The slides in the presentation
use one of two layouts. Those using one layout display the footers, but those
using the other don't.
Any ideas?

I would go to the master and turn the footers off on all the masters and
layouts, then turn them back on again. You may need to use Reset (on the
Home tab in Normal View) to reset the layouts for the problem slides and add
the footers back in.

I know, these are a mess. I keep hoping Microsoft will fix them, but I'm not
holding my breath.

Thanks Echo

Tried all of that, no joy. Even tried copying the layout that worked and
modifying it - still no luck.

After reading some of your other posts on similar issues, I went and deleted
all footers off all slides, then all footer placeholders off all masters and
layouts. Then I added them back in, first on the master and layouts, then the
slides. I though I was onto something when the formatting reverted to the
default and I had to re-type the footer text, but sadly powerpoint continues
to defy me.

Last option I can see is to re-create the master and layouts from scratch.
Funnily enough I'm not real keen on that option.....

Argh, that's so frustrating! I'm sorry, I don't have any other suggestions
right now. I'll keep poking at it.
