Follow up to XP Stops responding with 32 min remaining

I removed the network card and even the modem to determine
if the hangup in the install was that, and it stills stops
responding at the same point, with 32 min. remaining. MS
Knowledgebase contains nothing, please any ideas? Thanks
for any input or advice.
