Folder Views

XP Homes ignores my wishes on folder views.

I'd like folders with pictures to show thumbnails, the others to
show details.

You need to access Tools/Folder Options/View tab. Under Advanced Options, select the "Remember each folders view settings" option. When you select a folder to view thumbnails or use details view, it should hold that setting.
