Folder icon on WinXP desktop will not delete...

I have anfolder icon on my desktop that just appeared. It has no name, and
appears empty even with the folder options set for view hidden...
I can not delete this icon. I get an erre message that says "cannot delete
file: cannot read from source disk or file"
Can someone help me delete this file and how it may have appeared?
