explorer.exe problem after W Update

Jim

Hello,
I hope someone can help. I am running XP Pro, and after
running the repair for Blaster worm, Updating Anti Virus,
and then performing a Windows update (which added a number
of items in addition to the needed patch), I can no longer
get into areas that use explorer.exe. If I right click on
Start, or My Computer etc, the system just indefinitely
hangs without going to the destination.
It seems that the Windows Update itself may have caused
this. If not, then some aspect of the repair for the worm
Help, I'm at a loss. I'm knowledgable but not expert.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

This is most commonly caused by update 821557. Try the workarounds before
removing:

Right click a blank area on the Desktop/Properties/Appearance
/Effects. In the Effects dialog box, click to clear the: "Use the following
Transition effect for menus and tooltips check box, and ok your way out.

If this doesn't help, run the edits on line 157

As for msblast, check the manual settings/checkpoints described here to
ensure you have removed it and/or run the script.
