Explorer.exe Crashes

Hi Folks,

I have a problem with a computer running Windows XP Home, about 5 - 10
minutes after startup the process explorer.exe crashes. If you try to restart
it using task manager, it attempts to restart then crashes again. Only
rebooting fixes the problem.

There are no entries in the eventvwr relating to the issue and the computer
has been scanned with various anti-virus/anti-spyware programs, but with
nothing found. If you manually end the explorer.exe task from taskmanager
when IT IS running it does not automatically restart but can be restarted
manually, but not after it crashes.

Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

That a crash is not recorded in the System and Application logs in Event
Viewer is unusual. Check the View settings in Event Viewer. Select
System, View. Is it set to All Records or Filter. If Filter is selected
and Error is unchecked you would not see the report.

How do you know it is Explorer that crashes? What programme are you
using when these crashes occur?

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements.

Hope this helps.

Likely an Spyware Issue.
if you use internet explorer for internet see running the no addons
mode resolves the problem.
You said your antivirus couldnt find any threats. No one program is
capable of finding all the threats.
