explorer.exe problem

Hey,

I'm having a problem with my explorer.exe shell. First, the story:

P4 2.5 GHz
512 Mb Ram
Radeon 8500 LE
Windows XP Pro SP2

I uninstalled Firefox 1.0.7 and, as I usually do after installing and
uninstalling, I restarted my computer. As Windows began loading up, I tried
to open 'My Computer' from the desktop. That's when explorer.exe crashed.

At first, the explorer.exe shell restarted by opening a Windows Explorer
window starting in 'My Documents', which loaded up fine. I tried to open the
different subfolders under 'My Documents' and they were fine as well.
However, when I go into 'My Computer' from the Windows Explorer, explorer.exe
crashes again.

So I decided to restart in safe mode to see if the problem is still there.
In safe mode, I was able to go into 'My Computer' without having explorer.exe
crashing. Since it was working in safe mode, I decided to restart Windows
again in normal mode. But, when I try it again in normal mode, the problem
is still there. Right-clicking on 'My Computer' doesn't seem to be a
problem, it's only accesing 'My Computer' that causes explorer.exe to crash.

Event Log says this:

Date: 27/11/2005
Time: 1:08:02 AM
Type: Information
Usre: N/A
Computer: *Blank*
Source: Winlogon
Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Description: The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at

I've been able to eliminate viruses, malware, and trojans so far. Does
anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks.

One more thing that I just tried, if I go to 'Run' and then 'Browse', I can
get to 'My Computer'. Don't know if that changes anything.

Long shot, run REGEDIT and go to this value
{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
and see if it's corrupt.

It's the CLSID for "my computer"
