explorer.exe crashes at startup

I have xp sp3. My cousin used a usb pen drive to copy some files. After
copying some it

gave explorer error message (I dont remember its wording). Than my pc
hanged. After

restart, explorer starts and than killed automatically. It keeps on doing
that until I press

ctrl+alt+delete and use Process Explorer to close Windows.

I ran anti virus (avast free edition) in safe mode and found nothing serious.
It runs fine in safe mode.

I also tried to copy explorer.exe from other computer but things got worse,
so i reverse

the action.

whats the remedy?

Please access the computer in safe mode and post a complete copy of the
Event Viewer error report.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of
the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are
important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-usA

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

In your situation you may need to paste the report into a text file and
save to removable media. You could then put the disk into the computer
you are using to post messages and copy to your message.

Hope this helps.

Gary not only .chm files any window causes it to stop this behavior if in
maximize state or (almost) full screen mode.
Anyways here is the event viewer result:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Winlogon
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Date: 26-Jan-09
Time: 9:26:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer: USER
Description:
The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

This is very interesting (event log), from where can i the list of Event ID
list.
