Explorer.EXE entry point not found.

After getting the error message "file System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sy is missing or
corrupt" I did a repair with the original CD. After rebooting most of my
desktop icons were missing but all my files and programs are still there but
when I tried to start IE7 I got the message "the procedure entry point
SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in dll SHLWAPI.dll". I followed the
procedure described in article id 888162 to uninstall KB834707 and to remove
SP2. After the reboot when I tried to open IE7 I got the message "procedure
entry point SHRGetvalueW could not be located in dll SHLWAPI.dll"; I thought
I hadn't properly deleted SP2 and tried to do it via the Add/Remove in
Control Panel but it was completely blank when it opened. I tried via the
Task Manager but got the message "refers to a location that is unavailable".
The current version is: Windows XP 5.1 build 2600 xpclient 010817-1148.
When I look at the files in the Windows folder I don't see any reference to
ServicePack2 but I do see a KB834707uninst.log file.
At this point I am stuck since I can't use IE to add the appropriate
updates/patches to XP (or for anything for that matter) and I would
appreciate any help/advice on how to get my PC back to a "normal" state with
everything working properly.

I was able to uninstall IE7 and I now have IE6-2600-0000 but after it starts
I cannot connect to any site (and thus cannot update XP) and I get an error
12029. The diagnostic gave the following error messages: check firewall
settings for HTTP port (80) HTTPS port (443) & FTP port (21). I know the
connection is working since I can connect to Yahoo messenger and Skype and I
am using my laptop via WIFI.
I disabled the firewall settings for the connection but same result. I have
Norton Security 08 but I cannot start it because my icon is no longer there
and when I try to do it via an .exe file I get an error message. When I tried
to enable the firewall settings I got the following message: "error occured
while internet connection was being enable; cannnot complete function".

That worked partially; I had to completely remove Norton Internet Security
in order to get IE6 to work. But after updating XP with SP3 I am having the
same problem but not with Firefox. So I'll try to download IE7 and see what
happens......
I still have a few other problems with the machine, i.e. add/remove window
blank, not able to install the printer again, etc. so I might be looking for
more help!!!

All of the issues you posted below are *directly* related to NIS 2008
actively monitoring the system when SP3 was applied. AFAIK, the only way
to resolve them would be to do a Repair Installation with SP3
*uninstalled*. Then apply SP3 afterwards with NO AV/security suite
actively monitoring the system.

This problem occurs when the Fixccs.exe process is called during the
Windows XP SP3 installation. This process creates some intermediate
registry subkeys, and it later deletes these subkeys. In some cases,
some antivirus applications may not let the Fixccs.exe process delete
these intermediate registry subkeys.

When this problem occurs, certain applications, such as Device Manager
and Network Connections, may be unable to enumerate the device or
connection instances. These applications will report a blank status,
even though devices and connections still function as expected. "

You could attempt to edit the registry but that would depend on you
being able to locate and delete *all* of the "intermediate" reg subkeys
that contain the following Values:
