exe files show ain IE window rather than prompting to download

Using IE with XP SP2 RC1

When it tries to open exe files at work it doesn't prompt to open or save
and just displays the binary content of the file in ascii form within the
browser. On my home computer rar and wmv files have the same problem.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks

I also have the same problem with WMV's and somtimes other streaming formats, but haven't encountered a problem with any other file types yet. When I try to open a WMV instead of launching Windows Media Player and beginning to stream the video, IE displays the binary form of the file in ASCII just like you said. I'm running SP2 RC1 as well and have only noticed the problem since installing it so I'm assuming it's a problem with Service Pack 2. Guess we just have to wait until RC2 or the final comes out for MS to fix the problem unless anyone knows how to solve it..
