Internet downloads

Can't find a fix for this problem anywhere else...

Running XP Home and IE 6. When downloading off the internet, files are
opened as text files. When I "save target as", the file wants to save as a
jpg file. I can workaround the file save problem by adding the ".exe" to the
filename.

Thanks for any ideas...

Read some other posts about switching to Firefox. Downloaded to cd on
another pc, then installed on this one. Firefox is working fine, problem has
not happened again. Goodbye IE.
