Excel 2007 takes too long to open

I've used binary files, changed my virtual memory, gone to
Explore>Tools>Folder options>File Types; selected XLS, XLSX, XLSX >
Open; and changed the end of the path from /e to "%1" including the
quotes, removed the check from "Use DDE" and it still takes 4 min 15
sec to open a 30 mb file. In my search I see where someone with 4 GB
of RAM (same as me) opened a 330 mb file in 15 seconds. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Unload all your add-ins and any hidden files.
If you have google desktop uninstall that too.

try running excel from the run command on the Windows button with these
parameters:
excel.exe /s /automation
that should just load a pure Excel with no add-ins or XLSTART stuff.

What is the performance when the file is stored locally?

Cheers
