error sp4

Hi All,
while installing sp4 on a w2k pro laptop I am getting this
error message,
in the title bar of the error msg "SP4 IIS"
and the error msg reads "unable to connect to meta base"
and when the ok button is clicked another msg appears
"Setup failed to remove ISM.DLL script mappings"
and the update fails and the machine restarts.
any and all help appreciated.

Are the IIS Admin Service and the World Wide Web Publishing service disabled
by any chance when you look at services.msc?
