Error in Outlook 2002

I am running Outlook 2002 and I can't move or delete any emails. I get the
message
"the messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook." I have done that several times. Also, I have
removed Office entirely and reloaded it. Problem still here. Outlook Express
lets me delete messages. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Found the problem.
The .pst file was too large. Saved too many emails? Deleted a lot of old
emails and everything works fine now. Had to delete with shift/delete to get
rid of the excess.

You will also have to compact the message store to reduce the size of
the .pst file. Permanently deleting items merely marks them with a
status of Deleted. Outlook will not show delete-marked items but they
still physically exist inside the .pst database file. Doing a compact
will physically purge the delete-marked items from the database.

Yuo said to "compact the message store". Will defraging the disc accomplish
this?

No. Compacting the database is removing records INSIDE that database
file. Defragmenting files has nothing to do with eliminate some of
their contents.
