Outbox won't empty

B

Bill Allen

I've never had this problem before.

I have messages in my outbox which are persistent. I can't delete them. The
receipients have received 50 copies so far (probably the number of times
I've hit "send").

When I try to delete the message, I get the following error message:

The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook.

Of course I'ver restarted Outlook. Not only that, I've rebooted the computer
from a cold boot.

Help!

Outlook 2002 running on Vista 64. Yeah, I know I should upgrade. The
stimulus package hasn't reached me yet.

Thank you,

Bill

2002 is not fully compatible with Vista
Run scanpst.exe on your data file, with Outlook closed
Uninstall any AV that is intergrated with Outlook, reboot, retest

All my ouotgoing messages are getting stuck in my Outbox since 7/28. The fiie
size does not matter. Nothing is going out. Then when I try to open them in
the Outbox the error message says: Can't open this item. Outlook has already
begun transmitting this message.

This issue happened right after I was trying to send a large file, which I
eventually sent from webmail.

I am running on Windows XP. I am not real "techy", so please provide layman
terminology and solutions. Thank you!

The most likely cause of this, normally, is scanning your outgoing mail with
an antivirus scanner. If you are doing that, uninstall your AV program and
reinstall it without the mail scanning feature. You will be just as safe and
it won't interfere with mail.

Outlook 2002 isn't compatible with Vista. Outlook 2003 is the minimum version
for use on Vista.
