Mail stuck in OUTBOX

Using OL 2002; new Sony laptop

PROBLEM: Cannot Send or Receive email

1. Error message: 0x8004060C

2. There is a one-sentence email (no attachments) stuck in my Outbox.

3. It actually went out because I got a reply that was accessible by
logging into my mailbox via webmail.

4. When trying to Delete or Move the email stuck in my Outlook
Outbox, I get this ERROR Message: "The messaging interface has
returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, try restarting
Outlook."

5. I have restarted Outlook several times.

6. I have rebooted the whole system several times.

7. I contacted my IP and we cleared out all incoming email.

8. After doing all of the above, I have restarted and rebooted again
but the email is still stuck in the Outbox and I still cannot Send or
Receive with Outlook.

Does anyone have a fix?

MORE INFO about my PROBLEM:

If my problem is because my ver. of Outlook is full, does anyone know
how I can begin deleting emails to reduce the size? Clicking Delete,
or pressing the Delete key won't let me delete the email. I think
there's another way to delete them, maybe one at a time, but I can't
recall how to do it.

I have found that I must
1) Go to Tools-->Options and turn off the automatic send/receive checks.
Otherwise it seems to keep sending the same e-mail over and over again;
apparently because it never finishes the send/receive it never closes out the
Outbox e-mail. So the next time it does an automatic send/receive, it goes
through the same thing again.
2) Go to your inbox or folders and start deleting e-mails you don't need,
especially the larger ones. I often first alphabetize the "from" column by
clicking on it (maybe twice). Then I scroll down the list and look for names
of e-mails that are just junk mail that I can select and delete as a large
group. THE SECRET IS TO PRESS SHIFT-DELETE, not just delete.
3) Try a manual send/receive by clicking the button. Hopefully your Outbox
will be emptied. If not, try selecting the item being sent and press
shift-delete.
