messaging interface has returned an unknown error - hosw do I fix

I am running outlook 2002 yesterday it started sending messages that were in
the outbox 20+ times(people are very frustrated with me) when I try to delete
an email or move it to a folder I get an error - messaging interface has
returned an unknown error. I fhtis condition persists restart outlook. I have
had this happen before and it involved the .pst file.....HELP
