Error 8218 in Eventlog when using ms faxservice on win2000 server

Hi there,
I am actually going mad!

I configured ms fax service on a win2k professional machine in only some
minutes.

I created a configuration to receive faxes and send them per email.
This is the solution for me. No additional software needed, simple to
configure,
tiffs arer stored for each fax. Everything fine.

Then I went to the server and tried to setup the same modem, configure the
fax for receiving
and tested.

The modem flickers, but does not take the call. Instead there is an entry in
the event log: 8218,
error during receive... please try again....

I tried again and again, tried different drivers for the modem (US Robotics
SportsterVoice Fax 33.6)
nothing worked.

I searched the newsgroups and found statements, but they do not work for me:
- It cannot depend on the phone line, I used the same for tests and on
server
- It cannot be the firmware of the modem, I used the same modem...
- It cannot be the driver, I tried different ones, all failed

I finaly tried to install on another win2000 server and failed again!

Is it a Server-Problem?
Do I have to allow something, so the mondem can go on hook?
MS does not document this, or I did not find it yet...

Regards

Alex

You have one external fax modem which works on Windows 2000 Professional
machine but on Windows Server machine. Is that correct?

On the Server machine does the 'send' work? Compare the driver details on
your Professional machine vs. Server machine. By the way is the source end
of the call same in both cases?

As a last resort we'll have to enable verbose logging which requires
changing system registry.
