Fax receive problem on W2K

T

Tom

I am running the W2K Fax Server on a 800MHz P3 w/ 128MB
Dell system and an external U.S. Robotics Sportster
33.6Kbps FAXMODEM (model 839-09).

Fax send works fine. Fax receive occasionally fails with
an event id 8218. Note that no other applications are
running at the time fax is being received and the problem
appears to be dependent on the fax machine that is
sending.

When I run Symantec's WinFax Pro application to receive
faxes on the same system with the same setup, fax receive
never fails.

Is there any way to get detailed logs from the W2K Fax
Server to be able to understand the cause of the problem?

Is there a specific set of machines from which if you
send, reception of faxes fail in the PC? If so, please
send us the list of fax machine/modem make.

Currently the only fax we know for sure the W2K Fax
Server fails to receive from is a DSP-based fax solution
that is integrated into our voice mail system provided by
a major telephony equipment supplier.

Obviously there is some interoperability issue with the
W2K Fax Service since other stand-alone fax machines and
the WinFax Pro application have no problem receiving from
the DSP-based fax.

We have the ability to debug from the voice-mail side as
far as getting fax logs and audio recordings etc.
However, without a full-story from the Fax Server's side,
it is not possible to find a solution to the problem. Is
there a way to turn some detailed logging on for the W2K
Fax Server? If only you have this ability, we would be
willing to work with you to resolve this issue. We could
even send faxes to your system if you would like to look
into it locally.

Please work with Russ Valentine ([email protected]) to
enable detailed logging.
