Erroe Upgrading Windows 2000 Pro to XP Home

When I try to upgrade right off I get an error about Windows 2000 installed
in a non-compatible system path.

Also I think my copy of Windows 2000 Pro is a bad copy. I got a refurbished
computer with 2000 Pro installed and now I can't view http:// based websites
but I can get to https://, ftp:// and feed:// just fine. Also when I go to
Run and type in MSConfig it says it can't find it.

In order to upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP,
you'll need to purchase a "Retail Upgrade Version" of
Windows XP Professional. Windows XP Home Edition
cannot upgrade over an existing Windows 2000 installation.

If you want to install Windows XP Home Edition, it can only
be installed as a "Clean Install".

Then why in the XP Home readme it can upgrade if you're using windows 2000
Pro? If it can't upgrade to XP Home then it shouldn't say that.

Okay fine so what about my other problem? I can connect but cannot view
websites. I've asked 5 different computer technicians: 3 say viruses, one
says it's a corrupted system file and the other one isn't sure. It's not a
virus I scanned with two different programs: Freedom and AVG
