EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner not detected by Windows XP

- As a new member of the WinXP Help & Support Group, I have a question for
which I haven't seen an answer previously posted. Am running WinXP, updated
to SP1, on a Dell L866r. Had installed an Epson Perfection 2400 Photo scanner
through the Dell's standard USB v. 1.1 port and it worked perfectly.
- Recently added a USB v. 2.0 controller card/hub and IT was detected and
installed without problems; installation confirmed by checking Device
Manager. I then connected the scanner through one of the new USB 2.0 ports
and the scanner wouldn't work. Error msg. says 'Scanner not detected'.
- Checked Device Manager and it shows the scanner present and functioning
properly- no yellow exclamation point or red "X" present. Checked the All
Programs folder and confirmed presence of all Epson scanner program
components. I haven't tried reconnecting the scanner through one of the old
USB v. 1.1 ports, preferring to try and solve the problem at hand. Any
assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have had much the same experience.. I found it necessary to remove and
reinstall Epson Scan. This problem may not be specific to Epson because the
instructions for my new USB 2.0 hub mention that a reinstallation might be
necessary if you move a device from one port to another.

By the way, after you have removed Epson Scan, unplug the scanner and don't
reconnect it until the new installation tells you to.

Shutdown PC and disconnect the scanner. Reboot.
Check if the scanner is listed under the Control Panel/Scanners and Cameras
If it is, delete it and reboot PC again. You want all references to it
deleted.
Now insert the scanner and XP's "plug&play" feature should detect it and
open a window or balloon that new hardware was found and ask if you
want to install it. Answer "Yes" and then will continue or ask you to
insert the
installation disk for the scanner. This should work for both 1.1 and 2.0
USB. Voila!

· Followed suggested steps, with following results: Both scanner software
and scanner itself install without problems. Used Device Manager to check
scanner status and found it present in the hardware list and reported as
functioning properly without yellow exclamation point or red "X". EPSON

· Followed suggested steps, with following results:

1) Both scanner software and scanner itself install without problems.
Checked scanner in Device Manager and found it present in hardware list and
reported as functioning properly, that is, without yellow exclamation point
or red "X" next to its entry in the list.

2) Tried to start scanner by using EPSON SmartPanel (scanner control
interface) and received error message 'Scanner not detected'.

· Am at a loss to explain why, if both scanner software and scanner itself
are properly installed, the software fails to "see" (detect) the scanner.
