epson perfection scanner not found by computer

I have instaled the scanner using the disc supplied . The scanner appears
switches on I try to scan but the program does not respond. The red light
indicates some sort of error.
When I press the scanner icon in the bottom right of screen the message reads
"scanner is not found, enable LTP PORT SPP/EPP"
Please help me!

SPP/EPP are BIOS settings for the parallel port on your PC.
Enter the BIOS setup mode and change the entry for the parallel port to EPP.
