My DVD-RW Drive has just suddenly stopped reading any cd's lately. I am only
14 so I apologise if I am going about this Newsgroup wrong, but anyway, onto
the point. Any CD that enters the drive is not detected. I've run through the
troubleshooting guide countless times and have had no help whatsoever. My
sister suggested cleaning the frive because dust may of blocked the lense,
or something. We tried our best to clean it. Still nothing. Any suggestions
please?

Hi Tristan, your post is fine. Assuming that you can 'see' the DVD-RW in My
Computer (under Drives with Removable Storage there will be an icon
[picture} and a drive letter, D, E or whatever) then one possibility is that
the cables that connect the motherboard to the drive are not pushed in
fully. This can happen if you have had the case open and been moving things.
If the cables are OK then another possibility is that the drive has died.
Sometimes the laser for reading and writing just packs up. One way to
confirm this is to swap it out to another computer to see if it works there,
or to try a known working DVD-RW in place of the one that has suddenly
stopped working. Good luck!

Yes to add to what Phil has said, there are normally separate lasers for
reading/writing and different sets for CD's versus DVD's - so one can fail,
say the read laser for CD's, and the rest will still function normally, the
write for CD's and read/write for DVD's.
