I have a strang problem, cd disks work fine but when I put in a dvd of
windows vista rc1 it crashes to blue screen. I dont have autorun enabled and
when I right click to open up the files it crashes. I can put other dvd disks
in with saved files on them and they open just fine.I can put the disk in a
other machine and it opens and want to install vista, any idea what is going
on here? Thanks

It says a problem has been detected, etc etc a reminder about cashing or
shadowing in the bios, stop 0x0000008E 0xc0000005, 0x89132674, 0xB409E7F4,
0x00000000' kmixer.sys address b409e74a base at B409E7F4 datestamp 00000000

I went in the registry and found kmixer and exported and deleted that key,
then of course I had no sound, so then I checked for updated driver for my
realtek ac97 onboard sound, updated, dont get blue screen everything just
freezes, no desktop icons, got to task manager end explorer process. restart
explorer and desktop icons are back, but still back at square one, just no
more bsod.

Information on STOP 0x8E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php#0x8e

"These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes
means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade)."

Why did you think that deleting a registry key would be helpful?
(Rhetorical question.)

Already have the latest bios. I deleted the key because it was in the blue
screen message'

Which one of the stop message parameters is a registry key?
A kernel mode exception brings into question the stability of XP, hence it
crashes.
