CD Burner Won't Burn

G

Guest

I have been trying (after a significant crash ... trying to start save as
much as I
can) to burn some folders/files, music, etc. to both CD-RW, (and DVD-RW for
extra space)
The CD Rom kicks out, and blah, blah, blah about can't install ... insert an
unused disk ...
How can I get the burner to acknowledge the empty disc, and burn to it ....
Also, those that had been burning "close" after a burn ... menu shows "0"
space available.

Thanks for any help ----

I'm using Nero 7 ... it won't let me erase the cd ... but then shows up as 0
left. The files I can locate, won't let me burn them
It will not let me us the disks
I get the notice:
"Sorry, your compilation can not be written on this kind of disk.
Please insert a disk of the correct type or modify the settings of your
compilations to make it capliple with the current disks"
Then, further info in that window states:
"Disk required for the compilation CD-R/RW. Disk type in the recorder DVD+RW"
I have tried all steps ... After trying to write info to the DVD disks an it
won't write to that disk, When I try to erase the DVD-RW, it kicks it out and
won't erase the disk

Is the IMAPI service running? Right click My Computer, choose Manage. From
Services and Applications, choose Services. Scroll down to the IMAPI service.
Start it if needed and set to Automatic from the drop down list. Does that
help? Let us know. -- Steve

Hey Maincat
Thanks for your response. I tried the procedure twice, but I still can't get
this mean mule from cooperating. After doing the IMAPI, I made sure it showed
"Automatic", still, when I bring up the Drive D: icon, it shows as "Free
space - 0 bytes", and "Total size - 0 bytes". This was with a blank CD-RW in
it. I get the message "The current media loaded is not Re-Writable, change
media and try again" When I tried to burn a few songs, I get the message "No
supported media type. Please insert a Writable CD-R or CD-RW and try again."
It willl not allow a DVD-RW or DVD-R
I am really needing to get to the point so that i can save all of my music (
a WHOLE lot) because the pc acts like it is going to crash on me. Again,
thanks for your reply ... I'll be watching for update.

Check the Properties of the CD-RW...look at last Tab, "recording" and click on the box to "enable CD writing on this drive"
If that doesn't work alone, remove all cd writing software, including all traces in the registry by running "regedit" and doing a "find" for any cd burning programs...e.g., find: Sonic, find next...then delete the keys found. If you're running any Roxio cd writing programs, remove the program, then do a Roxio search through the registry.
Worked for me on my Samsung cd-rw 232S
It seems that the commercial cd writing programs overtake the drive and remove the windows cd-writing capability. You need to restore this.
